The Super Falcons star narrowly missed out on being the first Nigeria player to win the Women’s Champions League after Barcelona lost to Lyon in the final.

Caf Awards Oshoala Win Five Times This Year

Oshoala was the only Nigerian present in the three-woman shortlist for the female player of the year award, but she was a huge favourite ahead of Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon) and Grace Chanda (Zambia)

The CAF Awards ceremony was held in Rabat, Morocco, and Oshoala’s status as the best female player on the continent was stamped as she beat her Cameroonian and Zambian counterparts to claim the coveted crown for a record fifth time.

With this win, the 27-year-old becomes the first African player to win five CAF Player of the Year awards, beating retired Super Falcons star Perpetual Nkwocha who has four.
