U-17 AFCON: Dominant Golden Eaglets Beat Zambia In Group B Opener

Favour Daniel scored the decisive goal as the Golden Eaglets started their campaign at the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations on a winning note.

The Golden Eaglets started the game on the strong foot but were frustrated by some impressive goalkeeping by Shedrack Kalyati.

Nduka Ugbade’s side had the ball in the net early in the game but it was ruled out for offside.

The Zambians were nervous in the opening half but later got into their groove and created a number of half chances.

Zambia head coach, Ian Bakala made two changes early in the second half with Junior Stanley Nyamikwe and Charles Kampamba replacing Jonathan Kalimina and Chimuka Lweendo.

Despite the double substitution, the Golden Eaglets continued their dominance.

The breakthrough came 14 minutes from time with Daniel pouncing on a looose ball to fire home the winning goal.

Substitute Light Eke missed the chance to double Nigeria’s lead when he missed from the spot in stoppage.

The Eaglets will face Morocco in their next game at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui on Wednesday.
