Manchester United has officially announced the appointment of Jason Wilcox as their new Technical Director. Wilcox, a former winger for Blackburn Rovers, will assume his role with immediate effect.

The Premier League club reached an agreement with Southampton, where Wilcox previously served as the Director of Football. This appointment comes as part of the ongoing shake-up at Old Trafford led by INEOS.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake and control over football operations has seen several senior figures join Manchester United.

In their statement, Manchester United stated that Wilcox will work across all technical areas of the football department to ensure the highest standards of performance. They highlighted his previous positions as Director of Football at Southampton and Academy Director at Manchester City.

As a player, Wilcox won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995. Wilcox’s arrival at Manchester United will also see him reunite with Omar Berrada, who is set to join the club as the new Chief Executive in the summer.

Southampton expressed their disappointment at losing Wilcox but wished him well in his future endeavors. The club will continue to support Russell Martin and his back-room team moving forward.

In addition to the appointment of Wilcox, Manchester United is reportedly in talks to hire Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth as their new Sporting Director. Ashworth has been placed on gardening leave after expressing his desire to leave St James’ Park.
