William Troost-Ekong Admits Salernitana Move Was “Hardest Decision of My Career”
Despite having helped Watford secure promotion to the Premier League in his first season and become a key player with the club, Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong still faced a difficult decision when determining that it was time to move on.
That decision was made to join Serie A side Salernitana from Watford this past Tuesday and Troost-Ekong confided that it was the hardest he had ever faced in his career.
Reflecting on his choice to The Athletic, Troost-Ekong noted: “This was the hardest choice I’ve had to make in my career,” adding “Every time I’ve had a great opportunity to go to a club, which was a progression in my career, it’s always been a no-brainer…But it was a difficult choice because I feel invested at Watford and I wanted to be part of the squad again to get promoted — I know what that felt like.”
Following his switch, Troost-Ekong debuted for Salernitana last week when they defeated Leece 2-1.
