For the first time since joining Chelsea, Raheem Sterling has explained why he decided to swap Manchester City for Stamford Bridge.
The England international, who arrived in a deal worth £47.5million, was asked by Chelsea TV why he wanted to play for the Blues, he said: “Seeing in the last two years it’s four or five finals that you guys have been in, the progress, you won the Champions League and are now looking to challenge for the Premier League, it’s something that intrigued me when I was having a conversation with the club.
“Seeing the direction that you guys are going in, it’s something I really bought into and I just felt it is a place where I can really come into my own. I just think it’s the perfect platform for me.”
He continued: “The club’s already got that winning mentality but to keep doing it every single year and keep winning more and more trophies and building on the previous season, I think that’s what top managers like Thomas [Tuchel] do.
“It’s not one year win and next year rest, it’s again and again and again and that’s what excites me to be here. It’s the challenge ahead and to win more trophies.”
He added: “I don’t want to go into too much detail on my conversations with the manager. You can see how genuine he was and how much he wanted me here, and that was the nail on it for me. I was certain that this is the place I want to be.
“I know a few of the boys from the national team. Mase, Chilly, to name a few, and I’ve got a good connection with Callum already. I feel at home already and I just keep putting the work in and can’t wait to gel even more with them.
“It’s been a great first week, I am really settling in, I feel at home now.”
