Erik ten Hag criticized his Manchester United players following a 1-1 draw against FC Twente in their Europa League opener, which featured a costly mistake by Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen had initially given United the lead in the 35th minute, but his risky turn under pressure allowed Sam Lammers to dispossess him and score the equalizer in the 68th minute.

After the match, Ten Hag opted not to single out Eriksen for the blunder, instead emphasizing that the entire team must bear the responsibility for failing to secure the win.

“We controlled the game at 1-0, but dropped our level in the second half. We must keep this momentum and not give opportunities,” Ten Hag stated, stressing the importance of a second goal to kill off the match.

Eriksen also voiced concerns about the team’s desire, stating, “I think mostly disappointed as a team, we wanted more in the end, far from good enough. They looked like they wanted it more, that can’t be right,” He said.

“I think everyone is looking at themselves, everyone is a professional footballer, they know what to do, what can’t happen. We don’t lose but it feels like a loss.”

He reflected on the team’s struggles in European competitions, which have seen them win only one of their last nine matches.

With another disappointing start to their European campaign, Ten Hag’s team will next face Tottenham in the Premier League before continuing their Europa League journey against Porto and Fenerbahce.
