Former Everton boss Ronald Koeman believes Cody Gakpo’s slow start to his Liverpool career can be attributed to the team’s current form.
The Dutch forward joined the Reds in January, with high hopes of continuing his impressive performance at PSV.
However, after making six appearances, Gakpo is yet to register a goal or assist and Koeman expressed that it is especially difficult for a young player like Gakpo when the team he joins is not playing on top form.
Gakpo also echoed these sentiments in an interview for Liverpool’s eMagazine WALK ON.
Despite this adversity, Gakpo has expressed his gratitude for Jurgen Klopp and the warm welcome he was given by both the coach and his teammates.
Looking to find redemption against former club Everton in Monday’s Merseyside derby, let us hope Cody’s individual performance turns things around for Liverpool sooner rather than later.
