Head coach of NPFL’s newcomers, Remo Stars, Gbenga Ogunbote, has said that the club’s win at MFM during the 2021-22 NPFL season opener on Friday, will not make the team lose focus on the bigger feats that will happen later in the season.

Goals from Akanni Qudus and Andy Okpe in the 55th and 90th minutes helped newly promoted Sky Blue Stars seal a 2-0 win over MFM FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Friday.

It was Remo’s first-ever victory over the Olukoya Boys in five league meetings, as well as the first time MFM will fail to score against their Southwestern neighbours.

Ogunbote while reacting to the win noted that it was just one win out of 38 matches, adding that the team will not be carried away but the win will boost the newcomers’ confidence.

“It was a sweet win. They call us underdogs because we are the new team in the Premiership, but we won’t get carried away with this win.

“It’s just match-day one in the league, we still have 37 games to play but it’s a good win for us and I think it will strengthen our confidence level.”

The Ogun State based clubside will host Heartland at home on the Boxing Day at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
