Enraged fans of Katsina United are reported to have held the players and officials of their opponents, Enugu Rangers International as hostage following their 1-2 loss at home in the hands of The Flying Antelopes in the matchday 1 of the 2021-22 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL season.

The fans of Katsina United were irked by the outcome of the match, hence blocking the stadium gates and insisted that Rangers would not leave the stadium.

The Flying Antelopes confirmed the situation on their official Facebook page .

“We are being held hostage here by irate fans after our win in Katsina,” Rangers said.

Meanwhile, an insider of the club who spoke to a correspondent of bestchoicesports.com.ng from Katsina confimed that the club was “held hostage for over 20 minutes” after the match.

The source noted that the angry fans registered their anger over the defeat handed down to their team and threatened to attack the team.

The source who craved confidentiality said that immediately after the final whistle, Rangers players and management were asked by LMC official not to leave the dressing room.

However, when the club left the room after some minutes, some fans who refused to leave the stadium waiting for Rangers, overpowered the security at the gate and surrounded Rangers team bus.

The source added however that nobody was harmed or injured.

“After the match, Rangers players and officials were told to wait in the dressing room. Not to leave immediately, for security reasons.

“But after sometime, the team left the dressing room and entered their bus but some fans who refused to leave the stadium, gathered around the Rangers team bus and refused to leave.

“They remained there for over 20 minutes before they left. The good thing is that no player or official of Rangers was touched or injured. The players and officials are in their hotel rooms as we speak,” the source said.
