NPFL 2021-22: Remo Stars continues impressive run, takes lead at the top of the table

Remo Stars made it two wins from two matches after their 3-nil win against one of NPFL’s giants, Heartland FC on Sunday.

The NPFL returnees continued their dream run as they spank The Naze Millionaires in their matchday 2 encounter, and took an early lead at the summit of the table.

The hosts got off to a fantastic start and went two goals up within the opening five minutes of the game.

Great thanks to the precision moves of lanky forward, Andy Okpei who was the source of pain for Heartland, scoring under four minutes of action.

The ovation that greeted the goal had hardly died when under a minute he had found the net again. By the 10th minute, he could have had a hat-trick but his flip narrowly missed.

As the match was getting to the closing stages, Samuel Anakwe scored the third goal that now see the Remo Stars having six points and five goals without conceding any.

The win was Remo Stars’ first home league win in the NPFL having previously lost 1-2 to Plateau United in 2017 and another 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance in 2019.

Also, Remo made make another history with the win – the first back to back victories in the NPFL.
