2023 WWC: Super Falcons Zoom Into Round Of 16 After Draw Against Ireland

Nigeria’s Super Falcons booked a place in the Round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Republic of Ireland.

Randy Waldrum’s side finished second in Group B with five points from three games.

Co-hosts Australia top the standings having amassed six points from same number of chances.

The Matildas defeated Canada 3-0 also on Monday.

Ireland were the better side in the first half but the best chance of the half fell to Nigeria.

Asisat Oshoala was put through on goal by Rasheedat Ajibade but the Barcelona star effort sailed inches wide.

The Super Falcons took control of the game early in the second half and nearly took the lead through Uchenna Kanu.

Kanu was set up by beautiful cross from Toni Payne but her header hit the upright.

Oshoala came close with another effort few seconds later.

Nigeria will face the first-place team in Group D in the Round of 16.
