Victor Osimhen Biography

Though Osimhen is from Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, he was born in Lagos. He attended Olusosun Primary School in Ikeja, Lagos.

It is at the football field in the School that all pupils and youngsters in the community met. After Hawking in the daytime, Victor would join other boys to go to the football field to watch the local team play.

Parents, Siblings, Family

Osimhen is the last of six children born to his father Elder Patrick Osimhen. Pa Patrick Osimhen used to be his son’s manager up until 2015 when Victor “blow” and so his father had to hand over the responsibility to French agent Oliver Noah of Noga Sports Management.

His mother, on the other hand, had died sometime in October, but Osimhen doesn’t recall the year because he was a very small child at the time.

Three months after his mum who used to sell sachet water to supplement her paltry income passed on, his dad lost his job and things became very hard for his family.

Osimhen’s brother, Andrew sold sports newspapers, while his sister sold oranges in the street. Osimhen himself also sold bottled water and other household commodities in the middle of Lagos traffic.

All these he did so as to raise funds for his education and family survival. It was tough for Osihen and his family living in Olusosun, Ojota area of Lagos back then.

Club Career

His footballing career kick-started at the Ultimate Strikers Academy in Lagos.

In no time, he got noticed after performing wonderfully well for the Golden Eaglets at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which saw Osimhen commit to a pre-contract with VfL Wolfsburg in 2016. He however officially join the club in January 2017.

And then in 2017, Osimhen began his senior career in Germany at VfL Wolfsburg and officially signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club, lasting until June 2020.

After staying for a season and a half at the club, Osimhen joined Belgian side Charleroi on a season-long loan deal in 2018–19.

Although Osimhen had summer trials with Belgian clubs Zulte Waregem and Club Brugge, who were the reigning champions, a summer bout with malaria had affected his physical condition, and neither club decided to take him on loan.

That was how on August 22, 2018, Charleroi came calling and Osimhen moved.

He had a successful spell with the Belgian side, scoring 20 goals in 36 games. Charleroi had no choice but to activate their option to acquire Osimhen following his satisfactory performances while on loan.

However, by July 2019, Osimhen moved to France and signed for Lille OSC.

At Lille, Osimhen scored his first UEFA Champions League goal on 2 October 2019, when he came in as a substitute in a 1–2 home defeat to Chelsea.

Osimhen finished the season as Lille’s top scorer, with 13 goals in 25 Ligue 1 matches, and 18 goals across all competitions.

Because of his strong goalscoring performances, Osimhen was tipped as a future African Footballer of the Year.

Osimhen was also named the Ligue 1 Player of the Month for September 2019, having scored two goals and assisted two more in Lille’s five league matches. And in June 2020, the Nigerian was awarded Lille’s Player of the Season.

The big one came when on July 31st 2020 Serie A club Napoli announced the signing of Osimhen for a club-record fee of €70 million potentially rising to €80 million with add-ons, which made him the most expensive African transfer to date.

Rise to Super Eagles

Osimhen was a part of the Nigeria under-17 squad that won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. He was also awarded the Golden Boot and Silver Ball in that tournament. The CAF Youth Player of the Year award was also handed to him in 2015.

His first game for the Super Eagles of Nigeria came in a 3–0 friendly win over Togo on 1 June 2017. And from that moment on, Osimhen has featured regularly in the green and white jersey. Though he missed out on Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign because of his inconsistent performance at Wolfsburg that season.

He was however recalled by Nigeria’s national football team coach Gernot Rohr for the November 2018 international break, starting in the friendly win over Uganda.

Osimhen was excused from the Super Eagles squad to represent the Nigerian U23 side in March 2019.

And by the time coach Rohr’s 25-man provisional list for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt was released, Osimhen was listed.

He played a total of 45 mins at the tournament that saw Nigeria end up with the bronze medal.

Wife/Girlfriend

Who is Victor Osimhen’s girlfriend or wife as the case may be?

Is it possible that Blessing is Osimhen’s wife?

Before Osimhen became the soccer star that you and I know him to be today, he was dating a girl named Blessing. Their pictures were everywhere on the Instagram way back then for about two years before Osimhen deleted them from every single one of his social media handles.

Even after he wiped out everything concerning his lover from his social media, rumours monger kept insisting that Blessing wasn’t Osimhen’s girlfriend but his wife.

Although no information about their wedding or marriage can be found online but is it possible that he might be married to her but prefers not to make it public?

However, what is officially and publicly correct and known of Osimhen’s love life is that the dude is single but not sure if he s searching. He seems to prefer to focus on his football career rather than making public his girlfriend’s relationship.

At least for now.

House & Cars

Osimhen around February 2022 bought a 2021 Mercedes G-Wagon car for the sum of $156,450 (about N65 million), making him one of the Nigerian footballers with the most expensive cars.

He of course resides in Naples, Italy, but not much is known about the house or mansion Osimhen currently lives in Nigeria.

Net Worth & Market Value

Wikipedia, Forbes & Business Insider all seem to put Osimhen’s current net worth at £13,598,000 while his market value is estimated at €27.00m. His current contract with Napoli is expected to expire on June 30, 2025.

Victor also endorses and promotes products like Nike, from which he makes good money. He has been using the shoe model of Nike Mercurial Superfly VFG since July 10, 2017.

Osimhen’s total transfer fees so far are worth around €104.40m.

Salary

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal winner moved to Italian Serie A side, Napoli, from French side Lille for €4 million euros and is placed on €4M a year wages, i.e. over 1.7bn Naira annual salary apart from bonuses. In other words, Osimhen earns £112,000 per week and £5,824,000 per year playing for as a striker for Napoli. You might have to do the Naira rate yourself considering the way the dollar to the naira exchange rate is skyrocketing in Nigeria these days.

Osimhen’s salary at Lille is £19,000 weekly and £988,000 yearly. When he played for VfL Wolfsburg, his weekly pay was £3,500 while he earned £182,000 per year. But as at the time he played for Ultimate Strikers in Nigeria, it doesn’t appear he was paid at all.
