Fulham’s appointment of Álvaro Arbeloa as head coach continues the growing influence of Spanish managers in the Premier League — IsaGoal.com reports.
The former Spain international has signed a three-year contract at Craven Cottage, replacing Marco Silva, who left the club after his contract expired before taking charge of Portuguese side Benfica.
Arbeloa’s move marks his first managerial role in English football after leaving Real Madrid earlier this year. He joins a group of Spanish coaches who have helped shape the tactical direction of the Premier League in recent seasons.
Spanish Influence Grows In Premier League
The success of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and Mikel Arteta at Arsenal has strengthened the reputation of Spanish coaches in England.
Guardiola has guided City to multiple Premier League titles since arriving in 2016, introducing a possession-based approach built on technical quality, positional play and tactical flexibility. Arteta, who previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant, has also developed Arsenal around similar principles of structured attacking football and organised pressing.
Their achievements have encouraged clubs across the league to consider coaches from Spain, where tactical education and youth development have become central parts of the football system.
Arbeloa now has the opportunity to continue that trend after building his coaching career at Real Madrid.
Fulham Begin New Chapter Under Arbeloa
Arbeloa’s football career included successful spells with Real Madrid, Liverpool and West Ham United before he moved into coaching. He later worked within Madrid’s youth setup before taking charge of the senior team following the departure of Xabi Alonso earlier this year.
Speaking after his appointment, Arbeloa said he was excited to begin work with the Fulham squad and experience the atmosphere at Craven Cottage.
“I am really looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at Craven Cottage with Fulham fans and beginning pre-season with the players,” he said.
His immediate task will be preparing Fulham for the 2026/27 Premier League season, where he will work with players including Nigeria internationals Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
Arbeloa’s arrival adds to the increasing Spanish presence in English football and highlights the continued demand for coaches with experience of modern tactical systems and long-term team building.
The Álvaro Arbeloa Fulham partnership will be closely watched during the 2026/27 season.
