Transfer news: Aston Villa plotting move for Chelsea’s Aubameyang

Aston Villa have reportedly taken an interest in Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was previously at Arsenal before leaving for Barcelona in 2021 and has failed to find his form again.

According to The Athletic, the Gabon international is desperate to leave Stamford Bridge amid diminishing minutes given by manager Graham Potter and could soon be making a swift move elsewhere.

Aston Villa has been mentioned as a possible suitor, given the ties between Unai Emery – the current Lions manager – and Aubameyang, who shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in 2018-19 when they were both at Arsenal.

Even Barcelona are open to bringing him back since selling Memphis Depay earlier this month, however any deals will likely have ot wait until summertime.

Chelsea have recently acquired attacking talent of their own which pushes Aubameyang further down the pecking order, and Aston Villa is also said to be considering other experienced centre forwards such as Lyon’s Moussa Dembele as potential targets before January window shuts.
