Former Nigeria international Friday Elahor has advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to be decisive on current issues of Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr if is still going to be the manager or not.
While the Eagles are prepping up for the African Cup of Nations, Elahor said that will enable them to avoid any form of distraction in the team’s preparation for the tournament in Cameroon next year.
Elahor speaking with the media said: “He understood the worries of some Nigerians who no longer have faith in the German tactician despite qualifying the Eagles for AFCON slated for Cameroon, and Qatar 2022 playoff slated for March next year.”
“Despite the overwhelming consensus that Rohr should go, I think this should be after AFCON because the tournament is a little too close before. Nigerians should be patient and wait after the AFCON to decide that.”
“For Rohr to go, it is only the authority that has the power to decide whether he stays or leaves. All the people clamouring for his exit are only outsiders as far as sending Rohr away is concerned.”
The ex international also commented on the interest of former Super Eagles coach Bonfere Jo, saying the coach had his time and he did his best by winning gold medal for us at the USA Atlanta 96 Olympics.
However, telling him to come back is asking Clemens Westerhof to also return to the Eagles dugout, they both did well during their times and we still talk about their feats and that should end there.” He said.
Having commented on the Rohr’s case, Elahor believes an indigenous coach should take over from the German tactician and such manager should be supported just like Rohr.
