Napoli seal Champions League knockout Last 16 berth after Victor Osimhen’s winner

On Tuesday evening, Napoli came from behind to secure an impressive 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.

Victor Osimhen scored the opener before Giovanni Di Lorenzo doubled their lead early in the second half, while Frankfurt were reduced to ten men early in the second after a nasty challenge from striker Randal Kolo Muani found the shin of Napoli’s Frank Anguissa.

Mexico winger Lozano said Napoli had “done well against a strong side,” but manager Luciano Spalletti warned that there is still work to be done if they are to reach their first ever Champions League quarter final.

Frankfurt began stronger with Kolo Muani creating a goal chance out of nothing after four minutes and then Buta fouled Osimhen inside the box, allowing Kvaratskhelia to put them ahead with his penalty kick just moments later.

After the game, Glasner lamented their “little mistakes” that allowed Napoli to take control, but midfielder Mario Goetze remains optimistic and believes his side can still pull off a remarkable comeback in Naples.
