Chelsea may have claimed the top spot after a resounding victory over Juventus on matchday 5 at Stamford Bridge thus leading the Old Lady with a better goal difference of 12 to 3.

But their inability to secure the three points against Zenit St. Petersburg proved decisive here. It counted against them in the hunt for a top place finish in the group.

While Juventus secured a narrow 1-0 win over Malmo FF to clinch the top spot at home in Turin.

The Belgian striker was at his ilk again as he scored to make it 1-2 in the process for Chelsea. It was a superb goal from the confident Romelu Lukaku who had the guts to call for the ball from Timo Werner.

He controlled the ball under pressure, shielded his marker with his body before he slotted the ball into the empty net.

Werner had ensured he eliminated the onrushing Zenit goalkeeper leaving Lukaku to tap in with one touch into the net.

But the calmness Lukaku showed under pressure defines the quality and class the Belgian can bring to the table further in the season for Chelsea.

And the pressure and firepower they put in against Chelsea were worth it after all as they earn a massive 3-3 draw they deserved in the game.
