Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Sascha Lense as a sports psychologist and coach Chris Armas as part of Ralf Rangnick backroom staff at the club.
The interim manager Rangnick is determine to make an impact on his squad as quickly as possible, and has already enlisted some help in the brains department by appointing United’s first sport psychologist in 20 years.
Since Alex Ferguson former no 2 Steve McClaren appointed Bill Beswick in the late 1990s, the Old Trafford side have not employed an expert in that department.
However, with Rangnick at the club now they confirmed Lense a leading psychologist who had a modest playing career in Germany in the second devision.
While Rangnick was addressing the media he said: “I don’t know what the situation is like here, but in Germany most clubs have sports psychologist or mental coaches.”
“For me it is absolutely logical. If you have specialist coaches for goalkeeping, physical education, strikers, fitness, you should also have an expert for the brain.”
“For me it is about helping the players understand that the brain should assist the body, not work against it. The players and everybody in our team should think in the right way.” Rangnick said.
