Manchester City were left disappointed after drawing 1-1 against RB Leipzig in their Champions League first-leg tie.

Riyad Mahrez broke the deadlock for City in the 27th minute after Ruben Dias headed a ball from a corner and Manuel Akanji, who was on loan from Borussia Dortmund, failed to clear.

Erling Haaland struggled to make an impact during the early stages of the match as City dominated possession and limited Haaland’s touches to seven in the first half.

Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte were unable to travel due to illness but Phil Foden dropped to the bench after their draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Despite their strong start, City could not capitalize on several chances created by Jack Grealish, Ilkay Gundogan and Nathan Ake late into the game and Josko Gvardiol’s equaliser 20 minutes from time was enough to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The two sides will meet again at the Etihad Stadium for a return leg which will determine who qualifies for the quarterfinals of Champions League.
