Luis Fernando Diaz Marulanda, also popularly known as “Luchito” is a Colombia international and Liverpool winger in the English Premier League.

Luis Diaz Club Career

Young Luchito started enjoying football at a very young age, watching his idol captivating style of play which he also emulated on the pitch while honing his skills.

Diaz trained tirelessly to hone his skills while growing up in his family home of Los Cerezos a neighborhood of Barrancas, training alongside his younger siblings and other young friends around.

His football journey properly began at his father’s academy, “Club Baller de Barrancas” where he was notably the people’s star.

At Club Baller de Barrancas he was never given preferential treatment despite been the son of the club’s owner, he was however subjected to the same treatment other players enjoyed.

As he consistently hone his skills to become a better player, Diaz found mentorship under a family friend named Rober Fernandez Brito.

With the help of Rober Fernandez Brito, Luchito became a regular in Barrancas’ local tournaments, displaying brilliant performance and clinching titles.

His journey to stardom began at the age of 18 when he was selected among other fantastic players to represent Colombian national team in a renowned South American tournament.

Throughout the competition he became a fan favorite with his efficiency and exceptional ball-control despite the initial fear that he was suffering from malnutrition.

Diaz’s performance during the tournament paved way for him when the legendary Valderrama recommended him to the owner of Barranquilla FC.

During his trial at Barranquilla FC he instantly showcased his talent with a standout performance that made many dumbfounded with his skills.

In 2016 Diaz moved to Atletico Junior a top-tier team in Colombia’s Premier division having impressed at Barranquilla FC.

His impact and influence at Atletico Junior won the club two “Categoria Primera” and the “Superliga Colombian Trophy“.

Like James Rodriguez his compatriot Diaz also found his way to FC Porto in 2019, having impressed their scouting network in Colombia and the advice of Falcao.

Following his consistent performances at Porto, Liverpool came calling on him during the 2022 January transfer window and he has since become one Jurgen Klopp’s most important players.

Luis Diaz National Team Career

Following the build-up to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Diaz received his first call to join the Colombian national team on 27th of August.

He was seen by the team management as a player who could bring a lot of positive addition into the team in the attacking third.

Diaz also brought to the fore a convincing performance at the 2021 Copa America, scoring a jaw-dropping goal against Brazil and also crowned as a top-scorer alongside Lionel Messi.
