Karim Benzema strikes as Real Madrid edge past Liverpool in Champions League

Karim Benzema propelled Real Madrid to a 1-0 victory over Liverpool and qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals with a 6-2 aggregate score.

After their wild first-leg performance at Anfield that left Madrid with an advantage of three goals, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said his team had only a one percent chance of overhauling the tie.

Yet, despite their best efforts, they could not produce the same magic under the Bernabeu lights and eventually succumbed to Benzema’s 78th-minute strike.

This marks Madrid’s successive third year knocking out Liverpool from the Champions League, including last year’s final.
