Chelsea trio Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Reece James are reportedly facing pay cuts if the club fail to secure a top four spot in the Premier League.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, these three players have clauses in their contracts which will significantly lower their wages should they miss out on Champions League qualification.
This news comes on the back of an underwhelming start to life under Graham Potter, who was brought in after Thomas Tuchel’s departure.
A series of reinforcements were hired during January including Mykhaylo Mudryk, Enzo Fernandez and Nuno Madueke – all brought in to help revive Chelsea’s season.
It is also reported that Argentine midfielder Fernández has signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues for a British-record fee of £107million.
The pressure is now on Potter to get his side winning and ensure these three stars get to keep their current salary figures.
Fans will be hoping for sterling performances when Chelsea take on Fulham on Friday night.
