Despite calls for his removal from some Stamford Bridge fans, Graham Potter has the backing of Chelsea’s co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali as they seek to build a successful team in the long term.
Potter himself has made positive changes behind the scenes, including improvements in training, analysis and an effective dialogue with the board prior to making transfer decisions.
His decision to rest some of Chelsea’s key players against Southampton was reportedly taken with the knowledge that those stars would risk injury had he chosen not to do so.
This selfless call was noted by Boehly and Eghbali who are opting to keep him in charge until at least the start of next season despite difficult results recently.
It is understood that they understand context of why it is taking time for Chelsea to go back to being title challengers and prefer not replace Potter now with an interim coach which could further delay redevelopment plans.
In order to follow Man City’s model of success, Winstanley and Potter have a strong understanding between them which will hopefully see a transformation of their current situation if given enough time.
