Arsenal Vivianne Miedema has been named BBC Women’s Footballer of the year 2021.

The Netherlands forward came second behind England defender Lucy Bronze for the 2020 award, before going on to win this year edition as the Women’s Super League all time leading goal-scorer.

Miedema also broke the record for the most goals scored at a single Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020, and she has been so important for the Gunners ladies since joining them.

Miedema while speaking with BBC Sport, “It’s a bit unexpected to be honest, it’s pretty cool to win something like this and with the fans voting it’s extra special.”

The Arsenal star has already scored 13 goals for the Gunners this season, as she continues to make history in the Women’s Super League for 2021-22 season as the first player to score against every team she has faced.

Miedema is also among the nominees for this year’s Women’s Ballon d’Or slated for Monday, and she will be hoping to win the award having won the BBC Women’s Footballer of the year 2021.
