Manchester United may confront the prospect of their manager facing a ban in European fixtures should they appoint Thomas Tuchel in the upcoming summer.

Tuchel, presently at Bayern Munich and formerly with Chelsea, emerges as the leading candidate to succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

The uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag’s tenure at the club has intensified following United’s disappointing 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Monday.

While the club operates under the assumption that Ten Hag will continue in his role next season, doubts persist, with reports suggesting Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not entirely convinced by the Dutchman.

Tuchel recently managed Bayern in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

Despite a late 2-1 loss, Tuchel’s post-match reaction to a contentious moment during the game might lead to repercussions from UEFA.

Following a disallowed goal due to offside, Tuchel voiced his frustration during the post-match press conference, accusing the officials of bias.

UEFA could potentially charge Tuchel for his comments, with a decision anticipated by the commencement of next week.

In the event of Tuchel’s appointment as United manager and the club’s qualification for Europe, there’s a possibility he could face a touchline ban for a UEFA game at the start of the following season.

However, United’s current position in the Premier League standings, currently eighth, suggests they may miss out on European competition.

Nonetheless, finishing seventh or higher in the league, or emerging victorious in the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City, could secure United’s place in European competition for the 2024/25 season.
