Three credible questions as Juventus Edge Chelsea to finish as group winners

Chelsea failed to beat Zenit St.Petersburg as both sides settled for a 3-3 thrilling draw at the Russian capital.

It was a massive game for both sides with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel resting his key wards ahead of the game.

The likes of Mendy Edouard, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho was not on the starting team. Though it’s not an excuse as to why Chelsea could not win the match against Zenit on Wednesday.

Following the 3-3 draw in this encounter, Isagoal.com evaluates three credible questions from Chelsea point of view.

Will Mendy had done better?

Kepa Arrizabalaga conceded three times in the Zenit and Chelsea 3-3 draw on Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

Kepa came on to deputize for Edouard Mendy with the Senegalese earning a well-deserved rest after a couple of first-team actions.

You could argue otherwise especially the third goal which chipped Kepa’s hand and went into the net.

Though it could have also been worse after all Mendy concede 3 goals against David Moyes’ West Ham United at the weekend.

What is wrong with Chelsea defence?

The Chelsea side has been underwhelming for the last couple of games and the Chelsea defence has not been clicking to a great effect.

Though certain players were coming into the first team for the match against Zenit St. Petersburg in the likes of Malang Sarr and Andreas Christensen.

But how about the poor showing that cost Chelsea to lose 3-2 at West Ham United despite the goals Silva Thiago and Mason Mount scored for Chelsea against their London rivals West Ham United.

Can Lukaku revive Chelsea season?

The Blues would be needing something special to stay in the hunt for the major honour this season following their bright start to the season.

But the recent run of draws would raise eyebrows as to what’s up with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side at the moment.

And in essence to this effect, the Blues would be needing experienced players to turn around this scenario.

Lukaku‘s goal could be a sign of his ability to do the needful while Chelsea fans can’t wait to see him deliver the goals he was bought for from Inter Milan.
