Ruben Amorim, the current manager of Sporting Lisbon, has suggested that he may reject interest from Liverpool and remain with the club for the next season. Amorim has been the frontrunner to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, but Xabi Alonso’s commitment to Bayer Leverkusen ruled him out of the running. While Chelsea and Barcelona are also interested in Amorim, earlier reports claimed that Liverpool had reached an agreement with him to take over in the summer.
However, Amorim quickly dismissed those reports, stating that there was no interview or agreement with Liverpool. He emphasized that he is fully focused on his role with Sporting and his only goal is to win the championship. Despite his comments, Amorim is still the favorite to become Klopp’s successor, and his assertion that he is currently the manager of Sporting does not necessarily mean he is ruling himself out.
After Sporting’s 4-0 victory over Gil Vicente, Amorim was asked about his future and stated that a cycle has not yet ended. He believes that coaches have their own timing and it is not solely determined by club interests. Sporting fans displayed a banner during the game, urging Amorim to stay. The question for Liverpool fans is how long he envisions this “cycle” lasting.
Amorim’s comments echo Alonso’s reason for snubbing Liverpool, as the former player felt he had unfinished business with Leverkusen. It remains to be seen whether Amorim will make a similar decision and stay with Sporting Lisbon to continue his coaching journey.
