Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has said that winger, Ousmane Dembele is better than his fellow countryman at Paris Saint-Germain Kylian Mbappe.
It will be recalled that Barcelona previously came close to landing Mbappe before the Catalan club opted to snap up Dembele instead when they lost Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.
Dembele, so far, hasn’t lived up to expectations since signing from Borussia Dortmund for £96.8million in 2017 and as things stands, his future at the club is up in the air due to series of injures that has blighted his career for Barca.
However, Laporta believes Ousmane Dembele would continue to be a Barcelona player despite rumours linking him to Newcastle United with his contract expiring at the end of the season and in an attempt to further woo the winger, he made a surprising claim.
“He wants to stay and we want him to stay. I know he wants to stay because we have a good relationship with him,”
“He has an agent and there are a number of circumstances. We have to show them that not everything is money.
“For me, Dembélé is better than Mbappé.” Laporta told TV3 cat.
The French winger has less than six months left on his contract, and this means he’ll be free to negotiate with other clubs in the January transfer window.
