Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, was unable to join the team as they traveled to Bouake on Monday due to abdominal discomfort.
The Nigerian national team is set to face South Africa in the Semi-final of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday.
Osimhen, who currently plays for Napoli, remained in Abidjan where medical staff are working to ensure his fitness. The rest of the team arrived in Bouake around 10pm via Air Cote d’Ivoire.
The Super Eagles confirmed this in a tweet, stating that Osimhen was not able to make the trip due to his abdominal discomfort.
The team’s medical staff have been closely monitoring Osimhen, with one member staying behind in Abidjan to provide care.
If cleared by tomorrow morning, Osimhen is expected to join the rest of the squad before 5pm.
Despite only scoring one goal since the start of the tournament, Osimhen has proven to be a formidable opponent for the opposition.
His absence in the upcoming match against South Africa will surely be felt by the Super Eagles, as they rely on his skills and contributions on the field.
As the team prepares for the crucial Semi-final clash, they remain hopeful that Osimhen will recover in time to join his teammates and make a significant impact in their quest for AFCON glory.
