On November 7, 2023, Pepe, the Portuguese defender for Porto, made history by becoming the oldest goal scorer in the UEFA Champions League.

At the age of 40 and 254 days, Pepe powered home a stoppage-time header to secure a 2-0 victory over Royal Antwerp.

Pepe’s record-breaking goal surpassed the previous milestone set by Francesco Totti, the legendary Roma striker.

Totti scored at the age of 38 years and 59 days against CSKA Moscow almost nine years ago.

Although Pepe is now the oldest goal scorer in Champions League history, he is not the only player to achieve such a feat.

Ryan Giggs, the former Manchester United player, ranks third on the list of the competition’s oldest scorers.

Giggs found the back of the net against Benfica on September 14, 2011, at the age of 37 years and 290 days.

Pepe’s remarkable goal-scoring record is not limited to the Champions League. He is also the oldest outfield player in Porto’s history.

However, he still has a way to go before becoming the oldest appearance maker in the competition.

That distinction belongs to Marco Ballotta, the former Lazio goalkeeper, who was 43 years and 252 days old when he played against Real Madrid in December 2007.

While records are meant to be broken, Pepe’s name will forever be etched in the history of the Champions League as the oldest goal scorer.
