Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) chairman Elder Paul Bassey has reiterated that Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee (NFFTC) are not aware of Rohr’s contract terms of employment.
Bassey who also dupped as the chairman of Akwa United says the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may find it difficult to sack Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr, even if they are inclined to do so.
He added that NFF has put itself into such a difficult situation that sacking the German tactician will come at so much cost to the country and it’s football.
The veteran speaking with the media in Lagos yesterday, absolved the NFF technical committee of any blame in the Rohr’s contract, saying the sub-committe knew nothing about his contract.
During the technical committee meeting held on Rohr’s contract status, Elder Paul Bassey said: “Not to the best of my knowledge. I never sat with any committee. The executive committee of the NFF must have met. If the technical committee met, I wasn’t part of it or invited for such.”
The Akwa United chairman also added that “You know that we have individual views on Gernot Rohr as the head coach of the Super Eagles.”
“We don’t have the power people think that we have. The coach doesn’t consult us or we cannot change the decisions of the coach.”
“If we had the power, we will like the coach to explain why certain players were picked for the national team. But we have situation, where the coach will just bring anybody into the team.”
While the German tactician issue is still on the table of NFF, Paul Bassey said it would be a very difficult call for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to sack him.
