Manchester City will welcome the likes of Eddie Howe’s men as hostility ensues this weekend in the Barclays Premier League.

The Citizens will be without Portuguese playmaker Bernardo Silva for Sunday’s Premier League game against Newcastle United at St.James Park.

The Portuguese international, who has been arguably the standout player for the English Champions this term, and did not come out for the second half of Tuesday’s 7-0 hammering of Leeds United due to a muscular injury he picked up.

Pep Guardiola played down the severity of the problem after the match and instead insisted that the substitution was just a precaution.

But the former Barcelona boss could not be taken any risk with one of his star men in the middle of such a packed period.

Guardiola will be in the stands after returning from a negative coronavirus test following an initially inclusive one.

Ordinarily, after such a massive win, most EPL sides would be expected to name an unchanged team, but Guardiola rarely does that and he could rotate some players for this match.

Joao Cancelo is back in contention in the side after suspension and should return to the right-back, although English centre back John Stones, who play that position impressed to prove he needs another start with a goal against Leeds United last time out.

Raheem Sterling will hope to feature here, while Ikay Gundogan could come into the starting eleven to replace Bernardo Silva after making two-assist against Leeds United.

Manchester City is loaded with attacking options, but the visitors will be without Ferran Torres who scored three times in this match last season.

But he’s out with a foot injury. Kyle Walker will be assessed after missing out in midweek too, while Liam Delap is out with an ankle injury for the Manchester City clash against Newcastle United.

Manchester City possible starting line-up

Ederson Moraes; Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Oleksandr Zinchenko; Ikay Gundogan, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne; Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish.
