Lionel Messi has expressed his pride in seeing Barcelona’s young players thrive under new manager Hansi Flick.
Barcelona currently top the La Liga table and have won three of their four Champions League matches since Flick replaced Xavi Hernandez.
Messi praised the emergence of young talents like Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, and Marc Casado, who have seamlessly integrated into the senior team this season.
Speaking to TV3, Messi stated, “They look spectacular and it doesn’t surprise me because it’s not something that’s new. It has happened throughout my time at Barcelona since I was just 13 years old.”
He explained that Barcelona’s youth players are familiar with the club’s style and culture from a young age, which allows them to transition to senior football smoothly when given the opportunity and confidence.
Flick responded to Messi’s comments with gratitude, saying it was an honor to receive such praise from a club legend.
He acknowledged that Messi’s continued support and recognition of the young players meant a lot to the team.
Messi also revealed that he plans to return to Barcelona soon, both for the club’s 125th anniversary celebration at the Liceu Theatre and in the future to live in the city.
He shared that he and his family miss their life in Barcelona, where his children are Catalan and they have strong ties to the community.
