Marcus Rashford’s exceptional season reached another milestone on Wednesday night as the Manchester United striker equalled a record held by Wayne Rooney for 11 years.

After finding the net during United’s 2-2 home draw with Leeds, Rashford extended his scoring streak to six consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford – last seen when Rooney netted against Everton in April 2012 during a remarkable 4-4 draw.

On that occasion however, the Red Devils were ultimately pipped to the Premier League title by rivals Manchester City on goal difference and Wednesday’s result was far from ideal for their title hopes this season.

Nevertheless, Rashford opened their comeback with a header just after the hour mark, before Jadon Sancho equalised 20 minutes later.

The 25-year-old now has 20 goals across all competitions this season including 11 from 22 top-flight games.

He has also scored in all but one of United’s eight Premier League fixtures since December and his performance has been hailed by Ten Hag who praised Sancho’s return to form following months of regaining his physical and mental match fitness.

The Glazer family are currently looking to sell Manchester United which could trigger a major transition period for the club, with Qatari investors having opened talks over a potential £4.5bn buyout.
