LaLiga slams FIFA for complete disregard for football leagues

Spain’s LaLiga has slammed FIFA for showing “complete disregard” for the importance of national competitions after the world soccer governing body approved a 32-team Club World Cup and an expanded World Cup with 104 matches.

According to LaLiga, FIFA has not consulted leagues around the world regarding these changes, which could have damaging consequences on competitive, sporting, and economic aspects.

The organisation is part of the World Leagues Forum (WLF), which criticised FIFA’s decisions in December last year. They will now analyse FIFA’s decisions before deciding on appropriate next steps.

The changes were approved by the FIFA Council, made up of 37 members including president Gianni Infantino and 28 elected by member associations alongside UEFA.
