Alex Iwobi ended the just concluded 2022/23 Premier League season by not only playing a crucial role in Everton’s successful bid to remain one of the few clubs that has never been relegated in the English topflight but also equalled records set by his Nigerian predecessors in the competiton.

The former Arsenal midfielder did not on play all 38 games for Everton, he also started in all the games like his predecessor, Joseph Yobo did for the Toffees in the 2006/07 season.

Like Yobo did, Iwobi also scored twice in the 38 games he featured in, winning the official Premier League man of the match once.

Iwobi also provided seven assists in the just ended season to equal the feat Peter Osaze Odemwingie achieved in 2010/11 season when he also scored 15 goals in 32 appearances.

The 27 year old Everton also ended the season as the Nigerian and Everton player with the most assists as his seven is three more than Dwight McNeil provided for the Toffees and two more than Kelechi Iheaancho bagged in 28 Premier League games.

Iwobi also tops the appearance and minutes played chart by a Nigerian as he featured in all 38 games, 10 more than Iheanacho who is in second place.

He also saw more 3,381 minutes on the field, 1,700 more than Wilfred Ndidi (1,681) who is second among the eight Nigerians that played in the competition in the just ended season.

Iwobi fired more shots (42) and made more tackles (69) than any other Nigerian in the competition.
