The Nigeria Football Federation on Saturday afternoon announced the 28 man squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The twenty eight players selected by interim boss Augustine Eguavoen includes Glasgow Rangers Joe Aribo.
With the omission of Bassey, many Super Eagles fans have questioned the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation and Eguovene to leave out several players from the squad.
Among the notable exclusions from the squad are Hoffenheim centre back Kevin Akpoguma, Glasgow Rangers fullback Calvin Bassey, Tyronne Ebuhi and Racing Genk Cyriel Desssers.
England based Nigerian players such as Josh Maja, Ademola Lookman, Ovie Ejaria, and West Brom centre back Semi Ajayi didn’t make the squad.
Quite a number of Super Eagles fans reacted on their respective social media pages, mentioning players that should have be included in the squad.
Noah Bature: “Where is Tyrone Ebuehi now? Haba.”
Edwin Chukwuemeka: “What is the reason of convincing the foreign born players to play for Nigeria and not giving them a chance, where Ademola Lookman, Cyril Dessers, Calvin Bassey, Kevin Akpoguma, who plays week in week out, Dessers scoring goals, Iheanacho what is doing there, so Omeruo who plays in second devision is than Kelvin.”
Daniel Sorkaa: “Great team list except that Kelvin and Bassey would have been there instead of Ekong and Omeruo.”
“Olokodana Michael Adedamola: “Dessers, Bassey, Innocent should have been included but then no list matter how good it is, it will not be accepted by all.”
Olawale Olufemi: “I expected Ademola Lookman ahead of Moses Simon. Also, I did not expect Kevin Akpoguma playing top-flight in Germany would be dropped over some of our current defenders. NFF should amplify the process of conversion of Eberechi Eze to the Eagles.”
Eddiano Giovanni Vicky: “Believe it or not Tyrone Ebuehi is the best Nigeria right back, where is Kelvin Akpoguma?”
