Former Super Eagle coach, Jose Peseiro, has chosen Nigeria’s semifinal clash against South Africa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as the most thrilling match of the tournament.
Although Nigeria only managed to defeat South Africa through a penalty shootout, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged as the hero of the night.
Despite their victory, Peseiro’s side was ultimately beaten by Ivory Coast in the final.
In an interview with Sportitalia, the Portuguese coach stated, “It was the most exciting game because it allowed us to reach the AFCON final, but we had many other memorable moments during our time with the Super Eagles.”
Peseiro recently resigned from his position as the Super Eagles coach and is currently unattached to any team.
He also expressed his desire to continue coaching and provided some insight into his future aspirations.
“This was the third national team I have coached, following Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. I would certainly like to qualify and coach a team in the next World Cup, but I am open to all possibilities. Coaching a club team with winning objectives would be equally exciting,” Peseiro said.
