Chelsea’s boss Thomas Tuchel says Lukaku could return to the squad for their Tuesday’s tie with Juventus or Sunday’s meeting with Manchester United.
The German tactician has no plan of rushing the Belgium international, who picked an injury in their Champions League clash against Malmo in October.
Tuchel while speaking with the media ahead of their lunchtime tie away to Leicester City on Saturday said, “Romelu Lukaku will not feature in Chelsea’s Premier League trip to Leicester but is very close to returning from injury.”
“He is very close to team training, so hopefully he will join the squad on Sunday, let’s see how this works out.”
“Romelu is pushing hard and trying to come back as soon as possible and we will try on Sunday.”
“If everything works out perfectly, if he is in training on Sunday and then on Monday he can maybe join the group on the bench against Juventus but there are lot of if and I don’t want to put pressure on him.”
Chelsea had really coped well with the Belgian absence, with the team delivering commendable performances against Norwich, Newcastle and a draw at home to Burnley before the international break.
Saturday will mark a full month since the former Inter Milan striker injured his ankle in the Champions League against Malmo, in what was his 11th appearance of the season after rejoining Chelsea in a club record deal £97.5 million over the summer.
