CAF okays biennial World Cup, approves CAF Super League

Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Friday, backed FIFA’s proposed biennial world cup plan.

It would be recalled that the FIFA committee under Arsene Wenger has been canvassing for World Cup every two years, a proposal that was first brought forward by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation back in May.

However, the proposal has received huge criticisms from most countries, continental football bodies, groups, fans and players around the world.

CAF on Friday, held its Extraordinary Assembly in its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, and they voted in favour of the biennial World Cup.

Also at the Assembly, the football body after much consultations and delibrations approved the African Super League for clubs on the African scene.

During its Extraordinary Assembly on Friday in Egypt, the congress approved the Super League but the clubs that will be involved and the criteria is yet to be revealed.

The competition was first proposed in Europe back in April but it was given a gross opposition from several stakeholders, namely UEFA and countries association and it was cancelled eventually.
