Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League title have taken a hit after a defeat to Aston Villa, leaving them two points behind Manchester City. Former manager Arsene Wenger believes that the pivotal turning point in the title race was Arsenal’s goalless draw with Manchester City.

Wenger, who led the Gunners to three Premier League titles during his tenure, believes that the draw at the Etihad Stadium in March was a missed opportunity for Arsenal to gain momentum. He expressed his disappointment that the team did not take a more adventurous approach and secure a victory.

“It was a complete surprise,” Wenger said in an interview with beIN Sports. “You know that when you play for the championship at home with eight games to go and you have the opportunity to make a difference, you have to take it.”

Although Wenger acknowledges that the defeat to Aston Villa was a setback, he still believes that the draw against Manchester City was the moment where Arsenal failed to capitalize on a potential win. He emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities when playing against top opponents.

Arsenal now find themselves two points behind Manchester City with only two games remaining in the season. However, current manager Mikel Arteta remains optimistic and believes that there are still twists and turns to come.

“Now is the moment to stand up as a leader, as a character to make yourself count because when you win and win and win and win for four months, it’s very simple to do it,” Arteta stated. “The moment is now. If you want to win championships, when you have these moments, you have to stand up.”
