Premier League players are reportedly in discussions to “boycott” BBC media duties following Gary Lineker’s dismissal from Match of the Day.

In response to his comments about the government’s recent immigration policy, broadcasters Ian Wright and Alan Shearer announced that they would not take part in the show in solidarity with their colleague.

Following this, the BBC declared that there would be no presenters or pundits for this evening’s programme, which kicks off at 10:20 PM on BBC One.

Sources state that many players across the nation have contacted the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) and made it clear that they will offer their support to those unwilling to speak with media personnel from the BBC before or after football matches this weekend.

Moreover, in a statement released by MOTD commentators on Twitter, it was stated that “we have decided to step down from tomorrow night’s broadcast” so as not to undermine Lineker.
