Chelsea’s marquee summer signing, Wesley Fofana has been blamed for Dinamo Zagreb’s goal in the Blues’ Champions League defeat on Tuesday evening.

The Croatian club, Dinamo Zagreb shocked the Premier League giants 1-0 in Tuesday night’s Champions League opener.

Despite dominating possession and creating a host of half chances in the early stages, the Blues were stung by the lowly rated side after just 13 minutes when Mislav Orsic broke clear to score what became the winning goal.

Chelsea signed Fofana from Leicester City in a deal worth around £75million in the just concluded transfer window.

The French star was absolutely roasted by Orsic, who headed the ball past the 21-year-old and sped away towards goal before slotting the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Owen Hargreaves said on BT Sport, “They bought Fofana for exactly this reason, to squeeze the pitch, play high, he can [track] runs in behind and he’s quick.

“But he didn’t look overly explosive in that one and I think Tuchel will be worried that they’re conceding soft goals when they’re dominating games.

“If you’d told me he’s not winning that race, I’d have said: no chance.

“They’ve just spent £70m on him because he’s aggressive and he’s quick. I’m surprised he doesn’t get back. Young kids, they want to rely on their athleticism.”
