We’re still a baby in the NPFL – Gbenga Ogunbote

Head coach of Ogun State based NPFL side, Remo Stars, Gbenga Ogunbote, has said that winning the first two matches in the 2021-22 NPFL hasn’t removed the tag of the “baby of the league” from the club.

The Sky Blue Stars on the opening match of the 2021-22 season humbled MFM in Lagos by a two goals defeat and on Sunday again, delivered a 3-nil hammering on Heartland at their home turf in Ikenne.

It’s the first time Remo Stars will be winning their first two matches in Nigeria’s elite league and manager, Gbenga Ogunbote, after the match, insists the team is still a baby adding that the wins will boost the confidence of the players as League continues.

He said: “Today’s win is a good thing for us, it will enhance the level of our confidence. We do not shy away from the fact that we are still a baby of the league.

He added: “I want to always win my games but the it does not come easy that way but it reflected on us because after the two goals we lost the grip of the game. I spoke with them on that and in the second half we came out a little bit better and if the opponents had scored against us it would have been a mess.”

‘The Oracle’ however, rued missing two first team players to injury and hoped to have them back as soon as possible.

“Losing two first team players to injury is massive but let’s see what the capable medical will be able to do. Two wins and two clean sheets are just to boost our confidence as a baby if the league.”

“Playing another home match is tempting one. We just need to do everything to get a positive result. A positive result will make us stabilise a little bit and the players will be able to see that they can still pick a slot in the continent.”

Remo Stars who just returned back to the NPFL are topping the table with six maximum points from two matches.
