Former Tottenham and Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has been hired as the head coach of the US Men’s National Team.

Pochettino takes over 21 months before the U.S. hosts the 2026 World Cup.

He becomes the 10th coach for the USMNT in the last 14 years and the first foreign-born coach since Jurgen Klinsmann in 2011-16.

The 52-year-old brings a lot of experience to the team, having managed Espanyol, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea in the past.

Upon his appointment, Pochettino highlighted his excitement about the “energy, passion, and hunger” of the U.S. team and country.

U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Matt Crocker, who was involved in Pochettino’s hiring and previously worked with him at Southampton, expressed confidence in Pochettino’s ability to harness the squad’s potential.

USSF President Cindy Parlow Cone also praised the Argentine for his innovative coaching and ability to inspire players.

Pochettino will be introduced at a news conference in New York and will start with friendlies against Panama and Mexico in October.

The USMNT’s next competitive matches will be in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals in November.
