Super Eagles Secure Victory against Black Stars of Ghana in International Friendly

The Super Eagles of Nigeria emerged victorious in an international friendly match against the Black Stars of Ghana, securing a 2-1 win in Marrakech, Morocco. This victory marked a successful debut for Coach Finidi George, who led the Nigerian team to triumph.

The match saw an impressive performance from the Super Eagles, with goals scored by Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman. Dessers converted a penalty in the 38th minute, after Jerome Opoku handled a shot by Kelechi Iheanacho. Lookman, a substitute, calmly slotted the ball into the net with six minutes remaining, extending Nigeria’s lead.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali played a crucial role in the team’s success, making several remarkable saves and demonstrating poise and confidence on the field. Nwabali’s exceptional performance ensured Nigeria’s first victory over Ghana at the senior level in 18 years.

The encounter held great significance for Coach Finidi George, as it mirrored his first appearance as a player for Nigeria against Ghana in an Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash 32 years ago. Interestingly, the result this time was an exact reverse of that match.

Both teams displayed composure and control throughout the game on the lush turf of the Grand Stade de Marrakech. Despite the Black Stars’ efforts to restore parity, the Super Eagles held their ground, thanks to Nwabali’s outstanding goalkeeping.

Captain Jordan Ayew managed to pull one back for Ghana from the penalty spot in the dying moments of the game, after Bright Osayi-Samuel brought down Antoine Semenyo in the Nigerian box. However, it was not enough to alter the outcome of the match.

The Super Eagles will face the Les Aigles of Mali in their next friendly match at the same venue on Tuesday, further testing their skills and unity as a team.
