Tottenham Hotspur’s anticipated move for Pedro Porro has been scuppered after Sporting Lisbon changed their mind on the deal at the last minute.
The Lilywhites were thought to be close to signing the 23-year-old Spanish defender, who had apparently said his goodbyes to the Sporting fans over the weekend.
Tottenham had verbally agreed a five-and-a-half-year contract, and Porro was set to fly to London on Monday for a medical.
However, The Athletic now report that the deal is off due to Sporting retracting their terms at the eleventh hour.
This has allegedly left Porro distraught, as he was keen on a move to Tottenham.
Ruben Amorim’s side are said to be looking into a potential replacement – Hector Bellerin from Barcelona – with Tottenham expectedly seeking another solution of their own ahead of Wednesday’s transfer deadline day.
In addition, Antonio Conte’s team will also likely keep hold of Djed Spence for now; he joined last season but has only featured six times this campaign.
