Tottenham Hotspur’s skipper, Son Heung-min, suffered a finger injury following a confrontation with a teammate just before South Korea’s disheartening loss to Jordan in the Asian Cup

The Korean football body confirmed the incident, which had earlier been reported by local media.

South Korea, ranked 23rd in the world, suffered a 2-0 loss to 87th-ranked Jordan in the semifinals of the Asian Football Confederation competition held in Qatar.

According to a report from British newspaper The Sun, the altercation occurred during dinner the night before the game.

It is said that some younger players, including Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain, hurried through their meal in order to play table tennis.

This displeased Son and some of the older players, as pre-match meals are traditionally seen as a time for team bonding.

An unnamed source stated that Son asked his younger teammates to sit down, but they responded disrespectfully.

The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Son dislocating his finger while attempting to calm everyone down.

South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported that Son initially tried to communicate with the younger players, but the confrontation turned physical when they refused to listen.

Son and Lee had to be separated, and Son injured his finger in the process.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred when the younger players went to play table tennis and Son, along with other senior players, took issue with it.

Son hurt his finger during the exchange of words.

Son was seen playing in the semifinal match with his fingers strapped together.

Lee Kang-in apologized for his actions via Instagram Stories, expressing regret for disappointing the football fans who support the national team.

He acknowledged his mistake in not listening to his seniors and vowed to become a better player and person with their guidance.

The defeat against Jordan, in which South Korea failed to register a single shot on target, has left Korean football fans frustrated.

They have called for the resignation of head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, citing a lack of leadership.

The KFA is set to convene a meeting to discuss Klinsmann’s future.
