Senegal scored twice in the second half to cruise past Qatar, the host nation, in their FIFA World Cup match at the Al Thumama Stadium on Friday.

Goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou and Bamba DIeng ensured victory for the Teranga Lions, pushing Qatar to the brink of World Cup elimination.

Muhammed Muntari scored Qatar’s first ever World Cup goal but it proved only a consolation for the disappointed hosts.

Aliou Cisse’s Senegal also became the first African nation to claim all three points in a match at the tournament, improving on draws by Tunisia and Morocco.

They also became the first African side to beat the host nation at the World Cup.

Dia slammed home a shot after Senegal pounced on a poor clearance to take the lead four minutes from half-time, and Diedhiou doubled the West Africans’ advantage three minutes after the restart with a well-taken header.

Another header did the trick for Muntari and Qatar, but Dieng scored six minutes from time to send the African party into jubilation mode.

Senegal are on three points after playing two matches. They will face Ecuador in the final Group A match for a chance to move into the next round of the competition.
