Raphaël Varane has announced his retirement from football but confirmed he will remain involved with Serie A club Como FC.
In an Instagram post, Varane reflected on his career: “They say all good things must come to an end… Incredible emotions, special moments, and memories that will last a lifetime.
It is with immense pride and fulfillment that I announce my retirement from the game we all love.”
Despite hanging up his boots, Varane will not step away from the sport completely.
He confirmed that he will continue to work with Como FC, a newly promoted Serie A club.
While the specifics of his new role remain unclear, he hinted at a position behind the scenes, which he looks forward to sharing soon.
“And so, a new life begins off the pitch,” he wrote.
The Frenchman will work alongside former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, who is Como’s head coach, as well as ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
Varane joined Manchester United in 2021, making 95 appearances under Erik ten Hag and winning two trophies.
His final game for the club was the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May 2023.
Manchester United paid tribute to Varane on social media, thanking him for his leadership and service over three seasons.
Varane responded with gratitude, calling Manchester his “home away from home” and expressing hopes to return one day.
